The Financial Aid office establishes a guideline budget for educational expenses each year and then helps students receive the financial aid they need, up to the limit set by the budget. Emergency loans are not included in the budget or given out by the Financial Aid Office (see Student Affairs section for information on Emergency loans). Information regarding student financial aid, the application process, and the financial aid appeals process is available in the LSU Health Sciences Center Catalog.

A partnership between the student body and the Financial Aid Office is a key to successfully administering the Student Financial Aid Programs. Therefore, a Financial Aid Committee has been organized to serve as a liaison between the student body and the Financial Aid Staff. The committee meets with the Director of Student Financial Aid to discuss issues affecting financial aid recipients at least once a term and as the need arises. The Financial Aid Committee consists of one student representative from each class.
