DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE Student Health
Nurse - Occupational
(Employee/Student) Health Clinic Faculty members
or the Chief Resident of the Department of Internal Medicine (or their
designees) provide health care and general health maintenance. Policies for Routine Medical Care Eligible students or dependents in need of acute medical care during routine work hours (7AM - 4PM, Monday - Friday) should go to the Occupational Health Clinic on the 8th floor in the hospital (Room 8-H8; Ph.675-6281). A designated Student Health Nurse in the Occupational Health Clinic will evaluate you and then contact the Chief Internal Medicine Resident to see you, as necessary. Emergency care is available 24 hours a day through the Emergency Department in the Emergency Room, where Emergency Medicine staff will attend to the student or dependent. Follow-up or routine care may be sought in the Faculty Clinic with Dr. Banks. Limited time slots shall be made available on Monday mornings and afternoons in the Clinic; arrangements may be made by contacting Ms. Cathy Couvillion at 675-5980 or ccouvi@lsuhsc.edu. Individuals who have co-payments as part of their insurance plan should expect to pay these at the time of registration into the Clinic. The Faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine will provide all physician services (both routine and any consultations by sub-specialty Faculty) for students or their adult dependents. However, we are unable to adjust any clinic or hospital charges that may be incurred as the result of the care given (i.e., laboratory, radiology or pathology charges). In addition, hospital and clinic charges are billed through the hospital billing system and must be settled with that department. STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY, LSU HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER - SHREVEPORT Instructions for students who wish to consult the LSUHSC-S Student Mental Health Service Medical School, Allied Health School, and Graduate School are fast-paced and stressful, and addressing such stress will often help academic performance. This service is available to you as a student at no extra charge beyond the student health fee that you have already paid. The Department of Psychiatry has set up a good system for providing mental health care for students here at LSUHSC-S. Dr. Rowena White, Director of Student Mental Health Services, can be contacted directly at RWhit2@lsuhsc.edu to arrange an appointment. If Dr. White is not readily available, please call Mary in the department office (675-6046); she will facilitate your seeing one of the other faculty members. DEPARTMENT OF
OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY ROUTINE CHECK-UPS AND SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS Students or their spouses who are in need of gynecologic care and obstetrical care will be scheduled through the Ob/Gyn Department. Appointments can be obtained by calling 675-5370 (Jannese Ryland), 675-8295 (Kay Robinson), 675-5372 (Delores Brown) or 675-5380 (Constance Spann) Monday-Friday, 8:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. Students or spouses of students will be scheduled to see either Dr. London, Dr. Cooper, Dr. McCathran, or Dr. Brouillette for routine gynecologic care. Students or spouses of student seeking care for pregnancy will be scheduled to see Dr. Cooper, Dr. McCathran, or Dr. Brouillette. Appointments will be assigned on a rotational basis between these faculty. As the faculty of the OB/Gyn Department have only limited time-slots available to see patients it is important that the patients be on time and call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel appointments. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO CANCEL APPOINTMENTS AND ARE "NO SHOWS" WILL NOT BE RESCHEDULED. REGISTRATION IS DONE AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT. PLEASE ARRIVE APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES EARLY TO EXPEDITE THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT. Students or spouses of students who have co-payments as part of their plan should expect to pay these at the time of registration. Students and spouses of students whose insurance plans require referrals should arrange for the appropriate paper work prior to the appointment. If either co-pays or referrals are required these MUST be obtained prior to any physician care. THESE REQUIREMENTS CANNOT BE WAIVED BY ATTENDING PHYSICIANS. EMERGENCY CARE AFTER HOURS Emergency care can be obtained 24 hours a day through the Emergency Department. On Monday-Friday 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., students or their spouses can be seen in the Gyn Acute Clinic in the Women's and Children's Clinic by the Gyn house staff under supervision of the faculty. After 4:00 P.M. and on weekends, students or their spouses can be seen in the Labor Unit on 4K. They will be initially screened by the Ob/Gyn house staff and then seen by the Ob/Gyn faculty on call.
The faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology will in general provide all physician services for insurance only as professional courtesy to students or their spouses. Provision of professional courtesy is at the discretion of the physician. You must bring your bill for professional services (doctor bill) to the Ob/Gyn department in order for the billing staff to process this request. This is NOT done automatically. All patients will have a bill for professional services submitted as required by the institution. We are unable to adjust any HOSPITAL charges that may be incurred as a result of the care given, i.e., laboratory, radiology, or pathology charges or any other technical charges. Again physician services will generally be for insurance only or gratis at the discretion of the physician; however hospital charges are billed through the hospital billing department and must be settled with that department.
