D. Keith Payne, MD

Dr. Payne received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University.  He received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.  He completed his Internal Medicine training and his Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship a the LSUMC in Shreveport.  Dr. Payne's research interests include oxidant and tumor-induced permeability changes in the microvascular endothelium.  His clinical interests include the pathogenesis of malignant pleural effusions, venous thromboembolism, and alveolar proteinosis.

John Areno, MD

Dr. Areno received his medical degree from LSUMC in Shreveport in 1987.  He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care at LSU.  he spent six years in private practice, and returned to the OBVAMC in November 2003.  He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.  His areas of interest include lung cancer, cardiopulmonary exercise physiology and testing, and pulmonary infectious diseases, especially mycobacterial and fungal disease.

Dr. Conrad received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, and his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his internship and residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, and his Critical Care Fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN. Dr. Conrad is board certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and is a certified Nutritional Support physician. He is a Fellow of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American College of Physicians. His research interests include computational dynamics for artificial organs, and the functional genomics of sepsis and inflammation. He has been on staff at LSUHSC since 1986.

Ronald B. George, MD
Professor Emeritus
Dr. George is a graduate and former faculty member at Tulane University School of Medicine.  He joined the faculty at LSU Shreveport in 1972 as Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Section of Pulmonary Diseases.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases.  Under his direction the Section evolved into a major training center in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and has trained several Chiefs of Pulmonary and Critical Care in this country.  He has received student teaching awards at both Tulane and LSU.  He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and as Chief of Medicine at the Shreveport VA Hospital.  He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation.  He is a Master and Past President of the American College of Chest Physicians, a former member of the American Board of Internal 'Medicine, a former member of the Governing Council of the American Thoracic Society, and senior editor of a major textbook of Pulmonary Medicine. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus of Medicine and the statewide Consultant in respiratory infections for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

Dr. Jones is a graduate of the LSU College of Medicine in Shreveport.  She completed her training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, her Adult Pulmonary Fellowship at LSUHSC-Shreveport, and her Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at Tulane University Medical Center.  She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Adult Pulmonary Medicine, and Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. She joined the faculty at LSU Shreveport in 2000 as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Section of Pediatric Pulmonary Diseases.  She is the Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center, and is actively  involved in numerous clinical trials in the disease.

Shawn Milligan, MD

Dr Milligan received his medical degree from LSUHSC, New Orleans; residency training at University of Texas, San Antonio; fellowship training at University of California, San Francisco.  He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. His clinical interests include diagnosis and care of patients with cancer of the lung. He has experience in interventional pulmonary procedures and is a member of the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center . His research interests include the use of molecular markers to determine which individuals are at risk for the development of lung cancer. Dr. Milligan is a member of the multidisciplinary Sleep Medicine program at LSUHSC.

Dr. Scott received his medical training in New Jersey and New York and completed a critical care fellowship at LSUHSC-S. Present research interest includes investigating plasma therapy for the treatment of severe sepsis and extracorporeal life support for the treatment of severe respiratory failure. Basic science interest revolves around understanding genomic difference in obese and non-obese critically ill and in understanding the encephalopathy sometimes associated with severe sepsis.

Gerry S. San Pedro, MD

Dr. San Pedro received his medical training with the University of Arkansas: medical school, Internal Medicine internship and residency, and his Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship.  He has an active clinical research program, currently involved in all phases of investigational drug research, chiefly in the fields of obstructive lung disease (asthma and COPD), pneumonia, bronchitis, sepsis and septic shock.  He joined the staff of LSU in 1995.
