We seek to be the premiere source for Pulmonary & Critical Care education for our trainees and our fellow practitioners.  To accomplish this, we have a number of educational opportunities: lectures, case presentations, journal article reviews.

Overton Brooks Veterans Administration Medical Center

Experience at the Overton Brooks Veterans Administration Medical Center provides an added dimension to our programs. The Medical Center serves a population of over 131,000 veterans residing within its primary service area which encompasses 15 northeast Texas counties, five southwestern Arkansas counties and 12 northwest Louisiana parishes. The Medical Center is affiliated with the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport and has sharing agreements with the 2d Medical Group at Barksdale AFB and LSU Health Sciences Center. The VAMC provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology and psychiatry and a broad spectrum of outpatient services. The Ambulatory Care Program provides primary care services at the VAMC and at community-based clinics in Texarkana, Texas; Longview, Texas; and Monroe, Louisiana.  The 197 bed tertiary care hospital and its clinics are located about 4 miles from LSUHSC. There are over 4,200 admissions to the medical service yearly, and approximately 49,000 visits to the outpatient clinics.

Most of our faculty hold either joint or full-time appointments in the VA system, and our Fellows spend a good portion of their time in the VA's Medical Intensive Care Unit, Pulmonary consult & outpatient services, and Sleep outpatient clinics.
