Utilities

ELECTRICITY is supplied to the campus by AEP/SWEPCO. The main campus is served by two 12,470 volt circuits and all outlying buildings are served by individual 480 volt circuits. The electrical usage for the entire LSUHSC complex can be as much as 6,500,000 kilowatt hours per month during the summer.
NATURAL GAS is supplied to the campus by Centerpoint Energy. This is primarily used for heating domestic water and making steam for building heat. The natural gas usage for the entire LSUHSC complex can be as much as 250,000 CCF per month during the winter.
DOMESTIC WATER is supplied to the campus by the City of Shreveport. The LSUHSC campus uses 14 million gallons of water a month during the summer.
STEAM for the main campus is produced in the central utility plants. There are six boilers capable of producing a total of 110,000 pounds of steam per hour.
CHILLED WATER for air conditioning is produced in the central utility plants. There are six chillers on the main campus capable of producing a total of 6,990 tons of cooling. There are also three chillers for the Ambulatory Care Complex capable of producing a total of 1,200 tons of cooling.
  During electrical outages, the campus has six generators to provide EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL POWER. These units can produce a total of 3,225 kilowatts of electricity.
