Student Seminars Tuesdays
in the Clinic These seminar presentations will be presented to Dr. Cedotal or her designee. Attendance by ALL students in the clinic is mandatory. Students
in the Clinic portion of the rotation will be assigned a topic and are required to
present a 15-20 minute conference on that assigned topic.
The use of audio visual aids is suggested. The students giving seminars on the 2nd Tuesday of the 2-week Clinic rotation will receive a packet with a copy of assigned topics, the slide requirements and grading criteria at least 1 1/2 weeks prior to his/her assigned presentation date. For your student seminar, please have materials that need to be typed for slides turned into the Pediatric front office (Room 5-303) no later than the Tuesday (one week) prior to your seminar. Already typed slides, pictures, or power point materials, that are to be made into slides must be turned in by Wednesday (6 days prior to your seminar). If you want to use overhead projections, please present this material to the secretaries for preparation no later than the Thursday before your Tuesday presentation. If you want to do a power point presentation with the electronic video computer projector, the Pediatric Clinic conference room is already equipped with these. If you need a carousel, conventional slide projector or overhead projector, also notify the secretaries the Tuesday (1 week) before your presentation.
Requirements: 1. 15-20 minute presentation 2. Minimum of three references:
3. Turn in outline and reference text to faculty 4. See evaluation form
Expectations for Junior seminar presentations: 1. Presentations must not be read, the audience can read. 2. Written notes are OK, but should be avoided when possible. 3. Notes on computer are not allowed. 4. Slides should have minimal writing on them, meaning they should consist of key words that remind you, the presenter, what you want to say. Again, the audience can read, and they generally read faster than you can talk. 5. Avoid slides that are too busy, i.e. diagrams of complicated pathways. 6. A few break-up or comical slides can be beneficial. 7. Call Dr. Cedotal with questions, beeper: LSU #0505 |
