The Department offers a
fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery that is
recognized by the Education and Research Foundation for American Academy
of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The Fellowship Program
exists in a busy academic setting. With a large and diverse patient
population, the Fellowship Program is able to offer in depth exposure to
the full range of facial plastic and reconstructive procedures to
include cleft lip and palate repair, local flap repair of facial defects
following excision of cutaneous malignancies, craniofacial trauma
repair, microvascular free tissue transfer reconstruction of the head
and neck, as well as a full complement of cosmetic facial plastic
surgery procedures.
This is not an
observational fellowship. Fellows must possess the appropriate surgical
skills and judgment to function as the primary surgeon, under the
supervision of the Fellowship Faculty. Fellows also play an active role
in resident education. There are numerous opportunities to participate
in either basic science and/or clinical research.
Previous fellows have
successfully entered private practice and academics.
Application to our
Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship is made through the American Academy
of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Application to the
Fellowship Program is made through the San Francisco Matching Program,
www.sfmatch.org. Interviews generally take
place in April and May of each year.
