FACSCalibur

The FACSCalibur is an ultra sensitive flow cytometer, capable of 6-parameter (two laser light scatter and up to four fluorescent colors) analysis.  It uses two lasers for fluorochrome excitation: a) an argon ion laser for 488-nm excitation; and b) a Red Diode laser for 635-nm excitation.  This instrument uses CellQuest Pro software for acquisition and analysis.

For staff assisted operation of the FACSCalibur, please contact the Research Core Facility (BRI F6-14) to schedule an appointment.  It is recommended that you schedule your appointment one week in advance.  All appointments are made on a first-come/first-served basis.  Please understand that last minute scheduling cannot be guaranteed, and is generally unavailable.

If a scheduled appointment is not met and the RCF staff has not been notified at least 2 hours prior to the appointment time, a fee of $50 will be charged to the investigator.

End-User Operation

The RCF requires that all users of RCF equipment be adequately trained in its use.  At the present time, the RCF operates and maintains a FACSCalibur flow cytometer that has been made available for end-user operation.  In order to operate this cytometer, each individual must receive formal training from the RCF staff, consisting of a 4 hour class with lecture and practical components.  Upon successful completion of training, individuals will receive a certificate documenting their training and will be permitted to schedule use of the cytometer and operate it during normal working hours of the RCF, as well as during off hours and weekends.

End-User Scheduling

Scheduling time on the FACSCalibur is done through a web-based calendar.  To access the calendar go to www.calendar.yahoo.com and enter rcfcalibur as the Yahoo ID and cytometry as the password.  When scheduling your experiments, please list your name and contact phone number on your reservation.
If you need to schedule the FACSCalibur with less than 24 hours notice, you will need to schedule your use as always, but we ask that you please email or call (x5-5765) the RCF staff to inform them of your new appointment.
