Research Interests

  1. Oxidative DNA Damage and DNA Repair
We are examining the repair of synthetic ionizing radiation DNA damage in  bacteria and mammalian cells. Understanding the mechanism of repair of these lesions may aid in  designing new radiotherapy protocols or additional treatments with radiation to enhance  treatment.
  2. Senescence
We are investigating the role of oxidative DNA damage in the senescent process.  Senescence is an in vitro model of aging.

Specialized Techniques/Procedures

  1. Mammalian Cell Culture
  2. Introduction of plasmid DNA into mammalian cells
  3. Real Time PCR
  4. Isolation of RNA
  5. The generation of recombinant plasmids
  6. Sequencing
  7. Southern analysis
