Fifteen students at the undergraduate level will be selected to participate in an eight-weeks hands-on research apprenticeship under the supervision of selected LSUHSC research faculty. The program is designed to stimulate in disadvantaged students the desire to pursue careers in basic biomedical research at the master or doctoral levels. Selected students will attend weekly seminars, departmental lectures, and journal clubs. At the end of the program each student is required to present a poster paper that demonstrates his/her ability to evaluate scientific data, illustrate scientific writing skills, and to discuss their research findings.
