Training Schedule
The first year of training emphasizes inpatient ward and intensive care rotations. During this time the intern serves as the primary physician for patients assigned to his/her care, and is responsible for the initial history and physical exam, development of a diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and careful day-by-day care of the patient. Close supervision by senior residents and attending staff is provided. The aim of this part of training is acquisition of diagnostic and management skills. You will function as an intern for the first 16 months of your residency (8 months medicine and 8 months pediatrics). Interns have fifteen working days (three separate weeks) of paid vacation during the first twelve months of training. The following sample rotations would be for a resident starting on Medicine with 8 months of medicine your first year and 4 months of pediatrics.

PGY-2
During the second year, the resident makes the transition from intern to resident. This is accomplished by completing intern duties during the initial months of the PGY-2 year, with the remainder of the year functioning as a resident with full supervisory duties. PGY-2 residents and above have 4 weeks (20 days) of paid vacation. Following this schedule, you will have 8 months of pediatrics and 4 months of medicine.
