Welcome to the LSUHSC-Shreveport Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program Home Page, and thank you for your interest! The Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency offers a three year residency. Upon successful completion of these three years, graduates are eligible to take the certifying examination for the American Board of Internal Medicine. This allows graduates to work in many different primary care settings.

Message from the Program Director:
Starting a primary care track internal medicine residency program at the present time, may seem like sailing against the wind. However, we, at the Department of Medicine in Louisiana State University in Shreveport, have a different vision. We believe that primary care internal medicine can be a very exciting, honorable, interesting, and prosperous career, provided that residents are given a specifically tailored training for that purpose.
Gone are the days of “one-size- fit- all” medical training; what fits medicine categorical training to generate hospitalists or fellows for subspecialty medicine, may not equip them for a role as primary care internists.
I am inviting you to have a deep look in many of its unique rotations and innovations, as well as individualization of training.
