Color-Code
Messages
Do you receive lots of E-mail
daily? Is it difficult to see what is important and what isn't? This article
will show you how to use Outlook's organizing tools to color-code your E-mail
so that you can visually organize your email messages.
- Go to the Inbox folder.
- From the standard toolbar,
click "Organize". (You can also click the Tools menu and
select "Organize".)

-
Click "Using Colors"
from the left side of the Organize pane.

- In
the text box, enter either the E-mail address, or the name of the contact
you would like to color-code messages for. From the drop-down menu, select
the color that you would like the messages to be colored. In this example,
I will color all messages in aqua from the highlighted individual.

- Click the "Apply
Color" button. Once this color-coded rule is applied, it will say Done!
and all messages that apply to that rule will be color-coded.

- Repeat Steps 4-6 for
each color-coding rule you would like to create.
- Once you are done, go
to the Tools menu and select "Organize". This will hide
the Organize window.
To
turn the color coding feature off:
- From Organize window,
click on Automatic Formatting (or on the Standard toolbar go to View
menu, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current View.
Then choose Automatic Formatting).

-
In the Rules for this view box, select the condition you want
to delete, click the delete button
and then choose ok.
