--> Programs
--> Network Associates --> Viruscan. When the program comes up, click on
Help and then click About. If you still have the older version (4.03),
it is not necessary to update. However, if you would like to install the newer
version, please use the below instructions to guide you through the upgrading
process.
Windows 9.x, ME, 2000 Professional
- Click on Start --> Settings --> Control Panel
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Select McAfee VirusScan and click the add/remove button as
illustrated.

- Follow the prompts to remove the program.
- Restart the computer after you click finish and close out of everything.
- Log onto your computer like you usually do.
- Once everything is up, click on Start-->Find-->Computer.
- Type "SH-CSRV1" without the quotes in the Named box and
click Find Now

- Once it finds SH-CSRV1, double-click on the little computer icon that comes
up to open up the window.
- Double-click on the Guest folder.
- When this window opens, double-click on the antivirus folder.
- Double click on the Mcafee folder.
- Double click on the All Windows Versions Except Server folder.
- Double-click on the setup.exe file.
- Click Next
- Select I agree to the terms of the License Agreement, then click Next.
- You want to make sure
to select Custom Installation. Click Next.
- Click on the down arrow
beside Email Scan and choose this feature will be installed on
the local hard drive. Do the same thing for Intenet Scan.
- Click on the down arrow
beside Alert Manager and select this feature will not be available.
Do the same thing for Screen Scan and Send Virus Utility.
- Click Next.
- Click Install.
- Click Configure.
- Uncheck Create Emergency disk. Click Next.
- Select Configure AutoUpdate now. Click Next.
- Click the Add button.
- In the site box type LSUHSC
- In the Enter FTP computer name and directory box, type “sh-csrv1/virus/datfiles/4.x”
(no quotes) and click OK.
- Click the Move Up button. Click OK.
- Uncheck Start VirusScan. Click Finish.
- Wait until scan is done and go back to the window where you double-clicked
on the setup.exe. In this window, double-click the Service Pack folder.
- Double-click on the vsc45sp1.exe file (the icon looks like the world).
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Close out of all windows.
- In the lower right hand corner of your computer screen, you should see a
shield. Double-click on the shield.

- Click Properties.
- Click the box by Shutdown to remove the checkmark.
- Click on the Action tab.
- Under “When a virus is found”, change from prompt user to clean
infected file automatically by clicking the down arrow key.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- In the lower right hand corner of your screen, double-click on the magnifying
glass icon.

- Double-click on AutoUpdate.

- Click the Schedule tab.
- Click box beside Enable to place a checkmark there.
- Click circle beside At Startup to place a black dot there.
- Change 00 to 05 in the box beside minute delay before running this
task.
- Click OK.
- Double-click on Scan My Computer.
- Check box beside Run Minimized.
- Click on the Schedule tab.
- Check the box beside Enable.
- Select the circle beside Weekly.
- In the time box, put in your lunchtime (i.e. 12:00) and change the day
to a day of the workweek (Monday-Friday).
- Click back on the Program tab.
- Click the Configure button.
- Click on the Edit button.
- Click on the arrow beside My Computer and change it to All
fixed disk. Click Ok.
- Click in the circle beside All Files to select it.
- Click on the Action tab.
- Click on the down arrow beside prompt user for action and change
it to clean infected files automatically.
- Click OK.
- Double-click on AutoUpgrade
- Click on the schedule
tab
- Click in the circle
beside at startup
- In the box beside
minute delay before running this task type in 10
- Click back on the
program tab
- Click on the Configure
button
- Click on the Add
button and this will bring up another screen
- In the Site Name
box type LSUHSC
- In the enter FTP
computer name and directory box type sh-csrv1/virus/autoupgrade
- Click OK three
times to return to the Viruscan Console window.
- Now, click once to
highlight AutoUpdate and then click the Start button near
to the top of the window, or click Task in the menu bar and select
Start.
- After AutoUpdate finishes,
click on AutoUpgrade once to highlight it and then click then Start
button, or click Task in the menu bar and select Start.
- Click the X to close out of this window.
