The Changing Profile

A lot of you have times when other people have to use your computer to do one thing or another.  Sometimes if they log onto your computer with their profile (userid), their profile will get stuck in the computer’s memory.  When these people log onto your computer, they can change the way your email is setup, essentially making your email unavailable to you when you log on to the computer.  Well, if you are ever in this predicament, there are a few simple steps you can follow to help solve your problem.

  1. If you did not shut down and restart the computer after the other person used your computer, then do so now.
  2. Now, log in as you would normally. Make sure that your userid is in the userid box and type in your current password. Click OK.
  3. Once your desktop and all of your icons come up, go into the properties of your email by right clicking on your Inbox icon with your right mouse button. If you do not have an Inbox, right click on your Microsoft Outlook icon (not the shortcut) with your right mouse button. This should bring up a menu. At the bottom of this menu you will see the word properties. Move you pointer down to highlight this word and left click on the word to select it.
    1. If you can not get to properties by right-clicking on the icon, then go into your Control Panel (start --> settings --> control panel) and double-click on the MAIL icon.
  4. It should now bring up a new box. In this box, close to the bottom, you will see a button that says “Show Profiles”. Click on this button.
  5. Another new window should open. Close to the bottom of the screen you will see the words “When starting Microsoft Exchange, use this profile”. Make sure that your userid is in the box below this statement. If not, click the down arrow beside the box and select your userid.
  6. Now click the button “apply”.
  7. Now click the button “close”.
  8. Try to enter you email as you usually do.
