These instructions assume
you are using the LSUHSC dial-up service. If not, check with your ISP before
making any changes to your network setup.
On your home computer, do the following (you may need your
Windows 95\98 CD):
- Click on Start --> Settings --> Control Panel
-->Network
- In the "Following components are installed" list, look for Client
for Microsoft networks. If it's not there, click Add -->
Client --> Add --> Microsoft (on left side) -->
Client for MICROSOFT Networks (on right side). Click OK until back
to "Following components are installed" list.
- Click once on Client for Microsoft Networks and click on Properties.
- Click in the box beside Log onto windows NT domain and in the domain box
type LSUMC-MASTER. Click OK to go back to the "Following components are
installed" screen. Make sure TCP/IP is installed (if not, click add
--> protocol --> Microsoft --> tcpip). Click
once on TCP/IP to highlight & click on properties. Click on the WINS Configuration
tab and select Enable WINS Resolution. Add the following numbers in this order:
155.58.104.3, 155.58.104.2
- Click OK and OK and restart the computer
- After the computer comes back up, put in your Microsoft Office 97 cd. Click
start --> run --> d:\setup where "d"
represents your CD Rom drive.
- Click Add\Remove components. Do not deselect anything as this will
uninstall parts of your Office 97. Instead, click once on MS Outlook to highlight
it (not deselect) and click on Change Option. Click in the box beside MS Exchange
Server Support to select it and then click ok to continue. This will install
this one component.
- Dial into LSUHSC. Once connected, it should make you log into LSUMC-MASTER
(don't save password since it changes every 30 days). Right-click on INBOX
on your desktop. Choose properties
- Make sure Microsoft Exchange Server is listed in the "following information
services" box. If not, click Add --> MS Exchange Server
--> OK.
- Click Show Profiles. Highlight your profile. Click on Properties. Highlight
Exchange Server and click properties again. For Exchange Server, key in SH-EXCH,
for Mailbox key in YourLastname, YourFirstname (ex: Doe, John)
and then click Check Name
- Click on the Delivery tab and make sure the delivery is set to Mailbox
- YourLastname, YourFirstname (ex: Mailbox - Doe, John). If not, click
down arrow key and choose that. Click Apply and close\ok.
- Now, go into Outlook & you should see your mail. Be careful that it
doesn't download your mail to your hard drive (click on Tools -->
Services --> Delivery and make sure it is delivering to your
MAILBOX, not your Personal Folders)
Again, the Computer Services Desktop Support Helpdesk does not guarantee this
will work for you nor does Computer Services support using MS Outlook from home
to access email.
Good luck!
