Forget Me Not E-Announcements

The Shreveport E-Announcements are posted daily at the following website:

Wouldn’t it be nice to have an easy way to bring up these daily changing announcements other than relying on memory?  There are a couple of things you can do.

Using Task Scheduler

If you are running Windows 98, 2000, or XP, there is an option in Control Panel called Scheduled Tasks.  You can use this feature to schedule a time daily to automatically launch the website in your Internet Explorer.

Windows 98

1.                   Click Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then Scheduled Tasks

2.                   Double-click the Add Scheduled Tasks

3.                   When the Scheduled Tasks Wizard appears, click Next.  Note: it may take a minute or so for the next screen to appear, making it seem as though the computer has locked up.  Be patient.

4.                   Scroll through the list of programs that appear until you have located Internet Explorer.  Click once on IE to select it and then choose Next

5.                   Select a name for the task.  We recommend changing the name to SHV E-Announcements to better identify it among any other tasks you may have scheduled to run.

6.                   Select when to perform the tasks.  Since SHV E-Announcements change daily, that is the option you should choose.  Click Next

7.                   Select a time of day for this task to run that is most convenient for you and click Next.

8.                   Check the box labeled “Open advanced properties for this task when I click finish” and then click Finish

9.                   When the advanced properties box opens, click at the end of the RUN line in order to place your cursor there.  Press the spacebar to create a space between the last letter of the command already listed and what you type.  Type the following:

Using Microsoft Outlook

Outlook 2000/XP

1.                   Type the address of the Shv E-Announcements in the Address Bar within Outlook.  If the Address Bar is not visible, click on View then select Toolbars and choose Web

2.                   Pressing enter will bring up the web page within Outlook.  From this point, click on File, then choose New, select Outlook Bar Shortcut To Web Page.  This will place a shortcut to the web page on your outlook shortcut bar.
