MAC MCAFEE

Those of you who run the MacIntosh operating system on your PC, and don't currently have antivirus software, may be interested in our site licensed version of Network Associates' Mcafee. The minimum requirements to install this software are:

Installation of the software is relatively simple. 

  1. Click on Apple à Chooser
  2. Click on Appleshare to highlight it and choose the LSUMCS-FDDI-ETHERNET zone
  3. Scroll to the top of the list of servers and choose "  LSUMC-SH-EXCHANGE" (without quotes - note the space at the front of LSUMC) and double-click on it
  4. Ensure that the Registered User radio button is selected.  For the Name field enter the name in the format of DOMAIN\Username, refer to Figure 1 below for example. 
  5. In the password field type in your password  (i.e., the one that you use to access Exchange).  Click on OK.
  6. Double-click the Exchange Public Folder icon on the desktop
  7. Double-click the Network Associates folder
  8. Double-click the Virex 6.1 folder
  9. Double-click the Installer icon
  10. Click Scan
  11. Choose "All Local Volumes" and scan
  12. When scan is finished, click Install.
  13. After the installation is finished, click Quit and OK
  14. Shutdown and restart your Mac

MANUALLY UPDATING

To manually update your antivirus definition files, click the eUpdate button in the toolbar of the application.

SCHEDULING AN UPDATE

To set a schedule for automatic weekly updates, start the program and click on the Schedule menu.  Click on Edit Schedule and click DIAGNOSE.  Choose eUpdate from the popup menu.  Click "after startup" and choose At Specific Time.  Schedule for weekly updates and pick a day and time that is convenient for you.  Click the ADD button to add the event and then click SAVE.
