Employee Discount
Frequently Asked Questions

“All full-time/part-time LSUHSC-S employees and immediate family members (defined as the employee's spouse, as well as dependents listed on the employee's tax return and/or individuals under the employee's/spouse's health insurance policy), regardless of insurance coverage, are required to pay all applicable co-pays and deductibles when receiving care from a LSUHSC-S facility or physician(s). However, once a bill has been transferred to the responsibility of the patient, employees and their immediate family members (as defined above) are allowed up to a twenty-five (25%) percent-reduced fee from gross charges not to exceed the existing balance on the invoice for care received.  Discounts for facility charges may be requested by the employee at financial counseling located on the first floor of the hospital in room K-108, and discounts for physician charges may be requested by the employee at Physician's Billing on Kirby Place or by calling ext. 54263.”

What is it?

A policy which provides LSUHSC-S and E.A. Conway employees an additional benefit of choosing LSUHSC-S or E.A. Conway as your workplace.

To whom does the Policy Apply?

All full-time and part-time employees of LSUHSC-S in Shreveport, EA Conway Medical Center in Monroe and Huey P Long Medical Center in Pineville and their dependents are eligible for the Employee Healthcare Discount.

How does LSUHSC define “dependents”?

Dependents are an employee's spouse or individual(s) listed on the employee's tax return and/or individual(s) covered under the employee's or spouse's health insurance policy.

Is the policy applicable to students or retirees?

The policy is for active LSUHSC-S full-time employees, part-time employees and LSUHSC-S retirees.

The discount is not applicable to LSUHSC-S medical, allied health or graduate students who are covered under the institution’s student health insurance coverage as they already receive a discount.

When did the policy become effective?

LSUHSC-S has provided the Employee Healthcare Discount for many years.

Are all services and procedures included in the Employee Healthcare Discount?

All hospital, clinic and physician services with the exception of flat-rate surgeries are included.

Where must the services be rendered to qualify for the Employee Healthcare Discount?

Hospital and clinic services must be rendered at one of the three LSUHSC-S facilities in order to qualify for the employee discount.  Physician services do not have to be provided at a LSUHSC-S facility to qualify; however, they must be provided by a LSUHSC-S staff healthcare provider and billed by LSUHSC-S.

Are employees and their dependents required to pay co-pays at the time of an appointment?

Yes, all employees and their dependents are required to pay all co-pays as defined by their health insurance plans. The co-pay will be collected by the clinic and not the hospital.

When should the request for the Employee Healthcare Discount be made?

Requests should be made once the patient or guarantor has received a bill from LSUHSC-S or when they have received notification that their insurance has paid.

To whom should the request be made?

Discounts for facility charges may be requested by the employee in Financial Counseling, K1-08 of the LSUHSC-S Hospital, or in the hospital billing offices of any of the three LSUHSC-S hospitals.

Discounts for physician charges may be requested by contacting the physician’s billing office or the Shared Billing Services office at 318.675.7550.  Physician billing office contact information is included on the physician’s services invoice.

Please clarify the wording “up to a twenty-five (25%) percent-reduced fee”.

A twenty-five (25) percent discount of gross charges will be applied to the invoice.  Should there be a remaining balance once the discount has been applied, the employee (or guarantor) then becomes responsible for the remaining amount.  The discount will not exceed the balance due from the patient.

Can the remaining balance after the employee discount is applied be written off?

Should there be a remaining balance once the discount has been applied, the employee (or guarantor) then becomes responsible for the remaining amount.   However, should the physician who provided the service(s) make a request to the appropriate billing entity for a further discount in writing, the request will be considered.
