Living In Shreveport
  A Riverfront Gem...
Shreveport is a city of approximately 200,000 people with a unique blend of southern charm and modern convenience. Nestled along the Red River across from its sister city, Bossier City, it makes up the 3rd largest metropolitan area in the state of Louisiana with a combined population of over 375,000. Shreveport was founded in 1836 and celebrated its 170th birthday in March of 2009. The city ranks second only to New Orleans in the number of historic landmarks per city in Louisiana. It is located in the "Sportsman's Paradise" of the northwest corner of the state, surrounded by numerous lakes, parks and wildlife areas. Home to Barksdale Air Force Base and a blossoming Hollywood filming industry, this area is fast becoming known the country as a hidden treasure for many reasons.

Food, Festivals, Fun and Family!
Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and a-file gumbo!

Creole cuisine or something with an international flair, the dishes available at our local eateries won’t fail to delight.  Louisiana’s world famous cuisine is a melting pot of French, Spanish, Caribbean, Mediterranean, American and African influences.  Whether you’re looking for boiled crawfish or Southern home cooking, Shreveport’s expansive restaurant variety offers something for everyone. Ranging from fine dining to quick burgers, restaurant selection in Shreveport is never lacking.  Superior Steakhouse has become a favorite of many movie stars filming in the area and Strawn’s famous pies have even been featured in Southern Living!

Son of a gun, we'll have good fun on the bayou!

The area is well known for its numerous festivals which draw visitors from miles around.  From Holiday-In-Dixie and Mardi Gras to Mudbug Madness and the Red River Revel, these gatherings hold something for all ages to enjoy throughout the year.  Shreveport’s downtown district offers entertainment for families and singles alike!  From the Sci-Port Discovery Center to the riverboat casinos, there is always something happening in Shreveport.  Shreveport’s great location in the northwest corner of Louisiana makes day or weekend trips to East Texas and South Louisiana a snap!

The Shreveport-Bossier area is an outdoor enthusiastist’s dream. Louisiana didn’t get the name “Sportsman’s Paradise” for nothing!  Bass fishing, deer and duck hunting are just a glimpse of the types of game hunting available in North Louisiana.  The 2009 Bassmasters Tournament was held in South Bossier parish earlier this year. There are numerous parks and jogging trails—many located right on the Red River—for everyone to enjoy.  Shreveport is also home to 4 large lakes and of course the Red River.  These bodies of water are great for fishing, boating and relaxing!

With 13 different golf courses located throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area, the golf buff will never be bored!  Make a plan to visit Hal Sutton’s very own course in South Bossier.

The Louisiana Boardwalk is a riverfront outdoor shopping and entertainment destination featuring restaurants, a cinema, a clean air trolley, merry-go-round and over 50 fabulous outlet stores!  Through out the year the boardwalk hosts numerous special events, such as a hot air balloon festival, a giant Easter egg hunt, live music and nightly ‘snowstorms’ during the Christmas Season.

Shreveport-Bossier is also home to 3 different sporting teams.  Mudbug Hockey and Battlewings Arena Football play at the CenturyTel Center located on the Red River in Bossier.  The Shreveport-Bossier Captains, our minor league baseball team, plays at Fair Grounds Stadium in Shreveport.

Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen!

Approximately 64% of households in Shreveport are families, leaving the area very family-friendly and family-centric.  There are many great and affordable child care centers in the Shreveport-Bossier area—with quite a few located near the hospital.  The good public school system in the Shreveport-Bossier area allows for affordable schooling for your children without comprising the type and quality of education they will receive.  Many of the schools in Shreveport offer magnet programs.  The cost-of-living in the Shreveport area is also substantially less than many large metropolitan areas.  You can find nice, affordable housing in safe areas minutes from the campus and hospital.  The just-right size of the Shreveport-Bossier area makes most destinations a 15-minute drive.
