Who
should attend CPTP classes?
All
state employees. Supervisors and managers attend any classes, with special
interest in management development and supervisory training. Non-supervisors
attend general application classes.
All classes are designed to upgrade professional, technical, or managerial
skills
When
and where are the classes held?
Classes
are offered on-site at LSUHSC-S in the Medical School Conference Center,
G-221.
Class
times are 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
Occasionally
classes are available at other state agencies, such as DHH, Northwest
Developmental School or National Guard Armory in Bossier City.
Who
conducts the training classes?
The
Comprehensive Public Training Program is a section within the state’s
Division of Administration. The Department of State Civil Service is
the co-sponsor of the training program. The primary instructors for
the program are staff of the Public Management Program at Louisiana
State University. Civil Service staff present courses on Civil Service
Essentials for Being an Effective Supervisor, Performance Planning and
Review, Documenting for Discipline, Controlling Absenteeism and Tardiness,
Common Myths that Affect Good Supervision, and training for Human Resource
professionals.

Is
there a fee to attend the classes?
No,
there is no fee charged to the employee to attend classes. However,
each state agency is assessed a fee paid to CPTP based on the number
of classified employees.
How
do I know if I have to take mandatory supervisory training classes?
Those employees designated by their job title by Civil Service are notified
by HRM Staff Training and Development that they are to participate in
the mandatory supervisory training,
and have three years to complete all courses.
Are
all classes “live”?
No, there are on-line
classes, and there are distance learning classes which have several
sites across the state at one time with one instructor.
Do
I get CEUs for attending CPTP classes?
CPTP classes may be used for CEUs for some professions. Each profession
has its own criteria for determining appropriate courses and providers
of CEUs.
