What is Campus Education Day?

Campus Education Day (CED "Live" or CED Online Training) is the program that provides the annual mandatory training requirements for all employees of LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport. Current programs include, but not limited to:
      Fire Safety
      MSDS  (Material Safety Data Sheets)
      Bio-Terrorism
      Violence-Free Workplace
      Customer Service, and
      Back Injury Prevention / Ergonomics

Why is this training mandatory or required?

All LSUHSC-S employees are required to complete training on an annual basis according to regulations set forth by the Joint Commission, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, by the Office of the Governor of the State of Louisiana, and/or by LSU Health Sciences Center Administrative Directives .

When do I attend Campus Education Day?

If you have been an employee of LSUHSC-S for more than a year, you should attend CED. Your Department/Unit Manager will schedule you to complete CED requirements on-line (CED Online Training) or attend the CED "Live" session held during the quarter in which your birth month falls.

What if I can't attend at that time, or I missed my scheduled date?

Every effort will be made to schedule employees within the quarter in which their birth month falls. However, CED Online Training is available to every LSUHSC-S employee. Computers are available in each department as well as in the ProjectCARE Center (G-320). CED Online Training is easy, fits your schedule, and takes less than half the time to complete than attending the "live" program.

Is CED all the training I will need to be compliant for this year?

Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Clerks on the nursing units need to complete Patient Care Services MED training. More information regarding MED training can be obtained from the office of Patient Care Standards.

All employees with direct patient contact, patient billing or coding are required to complete Compliance training. These employees will receive notification from the Compliance Department when they are due for training.

Should new employees attend Campus Education Day?

Employees who have been employed at LSUHSC-S for less than one year from the date they were hired, and who attended New Employee Orientation (NEO) within 30 days from the date they were hired, are considered to have completed mandatory training requirements for their first year and are not required to attend CED.

Some exceptions apply. The department may require a new employee to attend CED even though NEO requirement have been met. The employee whose birth date falls within a month or two of their hire date should also plan to complete CED requirements.

I have nothing to take back to my supervisor to prove that I attended CED. How will my supervisor know that I was actually there?

Supervisors run monthly training attendance reports which provide them with the names of those employees who were enrolled but did not complete CED in the month, and will need to be rescheduled for the following month.
