Answers:

1. How do I apply for an unclassified position?

Apply for an unclassified position by submitting a resume to Human Resource Management/ Unclassified Staffing Manager. Resumes are only accepted for currently posted positions. Resumes are screened to ensure they meet the minimum qualifications as written on the job description. Only those resumes that meet the minimum qualifications and were submitted to Human Resources before the position closed are submitted to the Department for consideration of the posted position.

2. How do I know what jobs are available at LSUHSC-Shreveport?

Available positions are posted for five (5) days. Announcements are posted on the bulletin board in the lobby of the School of Allied Health. There is also a recorded job line that can be accessed by dialing 318-675-JOBS (675-5627), and information regarding current positions available is accessible on this website. See Employment Opportunities. For information on how to apply for an available position, see the information in the column to the left on this page.

3. What are some of the main differences between classified and unclassified positions?

Classified positions are either Competitive or Non-Competitive. The candidate must meet the minimum requirements of the job and may be required to take a written exam or obtain an experience and training rating issued by the Department of Civil Service. Classified employees are paid biweekly.

Candidates for Unclassified positions must meet the minimum qualifications of the job and possess the degree indicated in the posting. Unclassified employees are paid monthly.

5. If I have a degree, am I exempt from taking the Civil Service exam required for this position?

An applicant who has obtained a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with an overall grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher may be probationally appointed under the provisions of this rule to any professional level job for which possession of the baccalaureate degree alone is sufficient to meet the Minimum Qualifications. However, applicants appointed under this rule do not need to take the Professional Entry Test (P.E.T.) or other written exam.

THIS RULE APPLIES ONLY TO PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENTS AND MAY NOT BE USED TO AUTHORIZE PROMOTIONS.

6. What is the salary range for the available positions?

A salary range for each position will be listed on the job postings. However, the individual salary that an applicant can receive will be determined upon official offer based on the applicant's education and experience.

7. If I have been in my position for 3 years or longer, can my position be upgraded/reallocated to a higher position in order to receive a higher salary?

If the level of duties and responsibilities for the position have not changed, the answer is no. If you want a higher salary, please look on the board for a promotional opportunity. Salary should not be a factor in the reallocation process of positions. A position may be reallocated if there are changes to that position which results in a lower or higher level of duties and responsibilities.

8. If I am a Classified employee, how do I know my anniversary date?

Your anniversary date is six (6) months after the date you were hired.

Example: If you were hired February 1, then your anniversary date would be August 1. Employees are eligible for a 4% merit increase at that time, along with their first performance evaluation (PPR). August 1 becomes the anniversary date and you would be eligible every year at that time for a merit increase and evaluation.

9. Do Faculty positions have job descriptions?
