RHEUMATOLOGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

                                      Center Private Rheumatologists' Offices
                                      Shriners Hospital - Shreveport

Clinical Training: Throughout their training, the Fellows participate regularly in outpatient clincs with longitudinal patient follow-up. Fellows are active in the following clinics: VA Medical Center General Rheumatology Clinics one to 1 ½ days per week, Lupus Clinic ½ to 1 day per week, LSUHSC-S General Rheumatology Clinics 2 half days per week, Rheumaderm Clinic ½ day per month, Scleroderma Clinic ½ day per month, and Private Rheumatologists' Offices 1 day per month. Additionally, Fellows rotate through other clincal rotations such as Orthopaedic Shoulder Clinic, Physical and Occupational Therapy, EMGs, Pathology, Radiology, etc. to provide complete training exposures. The Fellows also serve on the Inpatient Consultation Service under the direction of Faculty Attending Rheumatologists for half of the time of their Fellowship.

Teaching Conferences: Fellows participate in regularly scheduled teaching conferences. These include Journal Club monthly, Research Conference monthly, Clinical Conference monthly, Basic Science Conference monthly, Renal Pathology Conference monthly, and Medicine Grand Rounds weekly. The Fellows also attend a series of Immunology Lectures presented by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

Research: All Rheumatology Fellows are required to participate in either a clinical or basic science research project approved by the Program Director under the preceptorship of one of the Rheumatology Faculty.

Board Certification: All previous Fellows who have taken the ABIM Certification Examination in the Subspecialty of Rheumatology have passed the examination.
