  • Perform and document history & physical exam including an informed consent
  • Develop and document a pre and post-op management plan
  • Develop an understanding of the differential diagnosis and related physiology
  • Order fluid and electrolyte therapy as well as blood products
  • Order and direct postop oral hygiene therapy
  • Order pain medications, diagnostic tests and indicated consults
  • Dictate operative note and discharge sumary

 

 

  • Perform panorex x-rays
  • Perform bimanual oral exams
  • Order and interpret basic ECG findings
  • Perform IV access for sedations
  • Perform routine culture and sensitivity
  • Perform wound care (dressing changes)
  • Perform oral/dental impressions
  • Perform routine dental extractions
  • Administer local anesthesia
  • Perform electrocautery
  • Perform wound closure
  • Perform wound irrigation and debridement
  • Act as first assistant in OR
  • Excise superficial skin lesions
  • Repair simple lacerations
  • Perform needle biopsies*
  • Perform incision and drainage (I & D)*
  • Place surgical drains*
  • Perform simple soft tissue impactions*
  • Perform simple intraoral bony contouring (tori )*
  • Perform closed reduction of fractures (fx)*
* Requires supervision by a Teaching (Faculty) Physician or Upper Level Resident
determined by the individual Resident level of performance.
